AcaSkim

Harley Nelson and I went down to Acapulco this past weekend to compete and teach in Acapulco, Mexico. It was the first time either one of us had been there, so we really didn't know what to expect. We couldn't help but wonder if the waves were gonna be any good or how big the event was going to be? As soon as we landed in the hot, tropical, humid environment and were picked up by Leo, Sebas, Emy, Toniko, Toto, Diana, and others we knew that we were in for a treat.

It wasn't easy getting Harley to walk across the border to Tijuana, then take a taxi to the TJ airport. With the little help from some zanex reassurance, he made it safely and was blown away by the stoke in Acapulco. We were well received by everyone.

Leo from Punto Muerto Surf Shop organized the skim contest down at the local break. Harley and I didn't really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to skim fun straight waves in warm 80 degree water. The wind was light all weekend and the waves kept rolling in. The skimsters were eating up every minute of it and Harley got his first glimpse into the life of a rockstar like his idol Axle Rose.

Following the contest was two days of skim camp. The language barrier wasn't much of an issue. I think all the participants were able to understand the teachings through all the demo. It proved how although there may be big differences in culture and language, but the one thing that binded everyone was the language of skim. And when in doubt, bring stickers, lots and lots of stickers.

It was an adventure that we will never forget. Thanks to Luis Uribe, Leo, all AcaSkim peeps, and everyone who helped make this happen. Hope to see you again next year.
